Scott Tallon Walker are recommended for certification by BSI for BIM Level 2 projects

Scott Tallon Walker Architects are pleased to announce that they have been recommended for certification for the design and construction of BIM Level 2 projects in line with PAS 1192-2 by the British Standards Institute.

BSI developed the BIM scheme for PAS 1192-2 Information management for the capital/delivery phase of construction projects to help designers and contractors, as well as their supply chains, provide evidence that they have the capability to deliver projects using Building Information Modelling (BIM).

STW successfully  demonstrated that they adhere to the requirements of the PAS 1192-2 standard through an independent assessment by BSI of our documented procedures and systems for all processes in PAS 1192-2, including compliance with BS 1192 and BS 1192-4, and the competency of our staff.

Scott Tallon Walker Architects recognise the potential of BIM to optimise the delivery of our design services, improving outcomes and realising value for money for our clients. We are committed to a ‘top down’ approach to BIM implementation and some of our most senior staff have qualifications in Collaborative BIM. This ensures the alliance of years of experience in design and construction with new methods of delivery. Further information is available at https://www.stwarchitects.com/expertise/bim

Watch the delivery of the cancer fighting 90 tonne cyclotron

Here is an Insight into the delivery of University College London Hospital’s (UCLH) cyclotron for their new Proton Beam Therapy facility in London and what it means for British citizens to have this facility available to NHS patients in the UK.

This ground-breaking facility is on track to treat patients in 2020, with the successful installation of the Cyclotron, the beating heart of the Proton Centre.
Scott Tallon Walker are proud to have been a part of this from inception to completion.

An Bord Pleanála Grant Planning Permission for Sullivan’s Quay, Cork

An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for this high profile mixed use development proposal in Cork city centre designed by Scott Tallon Walker Architects for developer BAM Property Ltd.

Sullivans Quay CGI - Dusk Meade St1

The proposal includes a 220-bed 4 star hotel, incorporating a 12-storey cylindrical tower on this very prominent and important site on Sullivan’s Quay, on the south bank of the south channel of the River Lee, overlooking the Grand Parade. The hotel development, which includes 2 levels of underground car parking, a bar, restaurant and retail area, as well as a gym and 11th floor viewing lounge, will be built alongside a new six-storey office development of c. 8,000 square metres.

BAM acquired the site from the Revenue Commissioners in 2006 and had initially obtained planning permission for a mixed-use hotel and office development in 2009, also to Scott Tallon Walker’s design. The current proposal has brought the hotel use to a more prominent location on the site, to occupy the landmark cylindrical tower.

The Cork City Architect has described the revised scheme as improving on the proportions of the design and making for a more elegant proposal.

The former Revenue Commissioners building has recently been demolished, and the site is currently being cleared in preparation for excavation of the 2 levels of basement proposed. Scott Tallon Walker look forward to developing the design over the coming months for construction to commence in the
near future.

Metabolic City / Architects for Health Awards

Congratulations to Katie Oliver in Scott Tallon Walker Architects who as part of the university team at the London School of Architecture – Metabolic City – were highly commended for our submission for the Architects for Health award in the DIP Arch category.

“London is sick. Pressures from living in a dense city can make leading a physical and mentally positive lifestyle a challenge. Pollution, stress, poverty, lengthy commutes, restrictions on council amenities mean many are unable to take advantage of the facilities and opportunities to live well.”

Our aim was to act as urban doctors, dispensing preventative design medication integrated into the natural flow of our experience of the city organism.

The Architects for Health Student Design Awards 2018 took place in the Wellcome Collection. The London School of Architecture ‘Idencity’ Exhibition is in the Roca Gallery and is on display until the end of July 2018.

We are pleased to announce the launch of our brand new website!

Our goal is to create a modern website that is easy to use on many types of devices. The site includes a responsive layout that adjusts to large screens, tablets and phones. We have used full screen images where possible that show off our work to it’s best. The navigation is kept simple and search features have been added to help you find content.

Users of our previous website will find similarities in the structure of the previous website. We still have PracticeProjects and News but we have moved Contact  into a more prominent position on the main menu so that you can easily contact us.

Under Practice, similar to the previous website, we have included information about PeopleAwardsPoliciesTestimonialsAlumnni and Heritage but we think you will find the information easier to navigate. Our primary Expertise is ArchitectureInterior Design and Urban Design & Planning but we also have significant expertise in complementary areas which include BIMSustainabilityConservation and Art in Architecture. Projects can now be browsed by Expertise which includes images and text carefully selected for each Expertise.

Projects are still grouped by Sector but we have also included the ability to search for projects by text or by map which are both very useful features for all users including our staff. Projects can now be easily filtered by Sector and searched using plain text searches. Each project page includes a brief introduction to the project along with key data and content which is based on the particular expertise used on the project. Where applicable, new content on the page is tailored to the project.

Our News section now looks and feels like a sophisticated blog site where articles are cross referenced with projects and authors and tags are used to relate articles with similar content. It is now easy to share articles as there are buttons on the top of the page which allow users to share articles via LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook or email. As new articles are added, we will publish them on WordPressLinkedInTwitter and Facebook.
